Spiritual Healing

There is a possibility there’s a bigger reason behind the slew of bad news the media subjects us to on a daily basis. We all know sensationalized news sells better but why? Is it possible that the “powers that be” hope it will discourage us from contributing to the welfare of our planet? Maybe that sounds a tad paranoid, but the rare times I turn on the TV or open a paper, the onslaught of negativity so overwhelms and discourages me that I don’t know where to start: starving populations, disease, war, the environment…
Fortunately, I prefer to create my own reality. While it’s much easier to just sit behind my computer and write about good deeds, I love the inspiration of great examples of volunteering and giving back. I point my mental browser to more positive spaces which motivate me to stand up and be of service.
In addition to the blog about Kimba who recently fended off a would-be rapist, today I ran across another encouraging blog called “How I Changed the World Today.” The blog owner, Julia, is resolute in being a part of the spiritual healing of the planet. As she says, “I get up in the morning determined to both change the world and to have one hell of a good time. Sometimes, this makes planning the day difficult.” I just love this idea - a good deed a day toward the spiritual healing of the planet.
Apparently we are hard wired toward charitable behavior anyway. According to Caroline Myss in her book “Invisible Acts of Power: Channeling Grave in Your Everyday Life,” “being of service is not an option, it is a biological necessity.” Myss goes on to say that “each kind action that we do for someone is a reanimation of our own life force - and of the other person’s.” Kind of like the saying “what goes around, comes around.”
So if, like me, you get discouraged with the bad news that permeates our daily living, might I make the suggestion to turn your focus to more positive avenues of information. Better yet, let’s actively seek them out, and if you feel so inspired, share the links here. You’ll feel better and so will I!
