Awareness equals Responsibility

Do you often think that other people have a more enjoyable job, a more fullfilling relationship or just an all around more successful life than you? Really? Me too! And, I can go on and on thinking about it for days until I just about drive myself crazy. Where is that off switch when a girl needs one?
Even more fascinating(!), do you have any idea why we might think this way? Well, I didn’t have a clue until just the other day when I had my latest “Ah Ha” moment.
As I am stuck here listening to the rambling conversations going on in my head, I often note when I’ve been hitting the replay button on certain subjects over and over again. Once I’ve finally had enough and decide I have to do something before I’m tempted to commit hari-kari, I look behind the thinking for the reason why.(My inner two year old comes in pretty handy at times.)
I discovered this internal whining is my way to avoid working on improving my life! Think about it. If I take up a whack of time moaning and complaining about how much my life sucks in comparison to yours, then I don’t have a whole lot of time left over to improve mine.
Wow! How cool is that? I never would have called myself a procrastinator before but I’m changing my tune now!
And I’m changing the sound track in my head. The unfortunate(!) part about being an aware individual is that I actually have to take responsibility and make changes when I notice the need. There’s just no getting away from it.
So now when I notice those thoughts coming up, I hit the rewind button and then record right over top of it.
First I list how great my life really is: I have my health, a nice place, food in the fridge, gas in the car, clothes on my back, friends who care, meaningful work, etc. My life really isn’t that bad.
Then I list where I want to go from here…. Ah, the possibilities are endless and life is pretty good when you think about it - just not too much!
Pardon me while I go to work on my plan!

Hooray!

Let me be the first to say then, that I love the point you raise about awareness — that it carries with it, responsibility.
That is so true, and it becomes even more critical as you gain deeper awareness. But then, the rewards always make it worth your while.
Good stuff,
John
Wonderful post and good luck with the plan!
wow nice post
Nice post - you’re right - absolutely right - once you become aware, there’s no going back. It cannot get away from you now (whatever it is you’re aware of).
So if you’re aware of your tendency to hide your power or whatever it is that’s not helping you, you now now you can do something about it instead of being in a haze.
Very nice job - congrats! I should also say congrats on making it easier to comment - apparently you once required a login to comment. If you had still been doing that, i would not have left a message. So it’s a good thing you got rid of it (I got this info from your commentator above).

Where do we want to go in life… keep asking yourself that question on a regular basis and I think we’ll be doing just fine =D
